Q: What is UiPath Apps?

A: UiPath Apps is a new RPA(Robot Process Automation) offering that makes it easy for customers to build and scale automations by bringing humans into the loop. With UiPath Apps, you can now automate long and complex processes that invariably require exceptions, escalations, and approvals handling by the business user. Humans can step into the process and make the required decisions while robots continue their work. 



Q: What is offered as part of UiPath Apps today?

A: The main feature offered as part of UiPath Apps today is Tasks. This is the centralized inbox which is accessible through a web-based portal with specific privilege or access control for users to take the required actions. In this release we provide Tasks as part of UiPath Orchestrator. The robot creates a task and suspends the workflow. Business users can access this task from the Task inbox and take the necessary action.

Q: What are the other major capabilities of UiPath Apps?

A: Apart from Tasks, you get to use Long Running Workflow (LRW) that is now built into the UiPath Studio as a set of new activities. LRW allows automating end-to-end business processes and linking multiple processes. With LRW, you can orchestrate the robot and human tasks.

Process monitoring is also offered with UiPath Apps. This helps monitor the LRW from start to finish as a single job spanning across different business units. You can now get process execution summary snapshots of robots, humans, and triggers to identify and resolve resource bottlenecks.

Q: Does UiPath Apps require new installations?
UIPATH

A: No. This doesn’t require any new installations. Features are provided out of the box. Studio, Orchestrator, and robots are enhanced with new features. Today, Tasks and Process Monitoring are available with UiPath Orchestrator. The Long Running Workflow package is part of the UiPath Studio.

Q: Are the robots blocked or unavailable when they suspend a workflow?

A: No. This is one of the main advantages offered by UiPath Apps. When a robot creates a task for a human to take action, the workflow goes into suspended mode. At this point, the robot is free to take up any other job. Upon the completion of the task by the human, the workflow gets resumed and is picked up by any robot that is available.

Q: At which stage in the human-robot engagement spectrum does UiPath Apps play a role?

A: When you need a hybrid or a partially unattended RPA model, UiPath Apps is highly suitable. That is the one scenario of the unattended to human to unattended or “human in the loop” scenario. Unattended robots hand off exceptions to humans to make key decisions before they are handed off to other unattended robots. This is a model where the automation of processes brings humans into the loop to handle the exceptions, approvals, and escalations raised by robots. This capability to automate long processes—that involves humans to take certain decisions as part of the process—is addressed by UiPath Apps.

Q: Is UiPath Apps available on the cloud?

A: UiPath Apps is available both on cloud and on-premises. Currently the Community release version is available on cloud only.

Q: Can we access UiPath Apps through a mobile phone? 

A: Yes. You can download and install the UiPath Orchestrator Mobile App from App Store and  Play Store for iOS or Android devices. The tasks of UiPath Apps can be accessed and managed from the mobile app. Users can manage or take the necessary actions such as approval, validation, etc from the mobile app from anywhere at any time. 

Q: Do the tasks created by robots get assigned to pre-defined business users? 

A: Currently the tasks created by the robots can be assigned to the folders like HR, Finance etc. The users added to the specific folder can assign the tasks to the respective person on the team or pick up the task to take the necessary action. The assignment of the tasks to pre-defined users will be available in the next release. 

Task assignments are handled in 2 steps. A set of users who are added to a folder with right task privileges, can access un-assigned/incoming new tasks. In this way, task access is containerised to the only set of users who have rights to see them. Any user can pick up a task and start processing it from within that group.
